Work, Work, Work, Work!

Do you remember your first real job.  I'm not talking babysitting or mowing the neighbor's lawn or even selling lemonade at the corner.   Nope, I'm talking about doing the 9-5 grind, having to deal with  onerous co-workers and/or bosses, endless meetings, and all those hours of sweet overtime. Yeah, I remember the days when I used to get overtime back when I drove a stake-bed truck for  Goodyear.  I remember driving all around Los Angeles and Orange Counties 15 hours a day, six days a week.   While my hourly wasn't all that great, I made an absolute killing on overtime.  Those were the days.  I suspect though, what with all the stories of employers stealing wages from their employees , there are a whole lot of people who don't benefit all that much from overtime. Take, for instance the young lady who came in the other day.  Seems a iron-worker by trade, young lady claimed that her employer had stiffed her for hundreds of hours of overtime.  She tried tak

This Is Still A Thing?!

You know what blows my mind (well, this week, anyway)?  It's the fact that there are still employers out in employment land that can't tell the difference between discrimination and non-discrimination.  I mean, really!  With all the litigation flying around, you'd think employers would know what not to do these days. Take, for example, the Lady who came up to me the other day.  Seems she is very religious and has been so all her life.   Her boss and fellow employees were not of her religious persuasion.  It seems that for the last several months, her coworkers have been discriminating against her because of her religious beliefs .   Both employer and employees have been berating her with anti-religious propaganda and literature and, have engaged in a pattern of "hostile proselytizing" to the point where she no longer feels safe going to work. Maybe you're thinking "hostile proselytizing?"  What the heck is that!?!  Well, I asked her and

Confessions Of An Ex-Facebook Junkie

A few year back, I was an avid Facebook user.  That's "user" as in a hard-core junkie.  It was a visceral need to log on and check out the world.  OH COME ON, don't roll your eyes at me.  You (or most of you) do/did it, too.  You'd log on, post stuff that your closest friends don't care about hoping that someone in the world will listen, like, and respond. Thing is, the only reason I was even on Facebook was because it allowed me to upload my blog posts every week.  Then, one day, I got an error message and Facebook began blocking my posts resulting in my turning off my Facebook account.  Cold turkey, I did.   For the first couple of weeks, I went through withdrawals.  Then came the emails from friends asking me where I went.  My sister even called to make sure I wasn't sick or dead (true story).  The funny thing is that Facebook had become a drug (more like a time suck) and initially it was hard to stay away.  I mean, what do I do with all my
