Does anyone really think they can get justice in this world, anymore?  Anyone?!  OK, OK, I realize there are some true believers who think that because they wear a long black dress everyday, that judges will ignore the the world around them and base their decision on the facts and rule of law . That's the hope, anyway. Thing is, anyone that pays attention to politics knows this is not (or no longer) the case.  For example.  I was reading the paper the other day and read an article in the Los Angeles Times ( New tilt to state high court? ).  Seems Kathryn Werdegar is on the California Supreme Court and she's retiring from years of service.  She was initially appointed to the California Supreme Court by then Governor Pete Wilson (a Republican) in 1994.  With the retirement of an evil Republican appointment, Gov. Do you know what you know?  When you are at work, are you always scrambling around trying to figure out what it is you are supposed to do OR do you know what to do and where to go when someone asks you to help them find whatever it is you're supposed to know?  That's how it is with experts -  we go to them because they know what they know. This reminds me of an incident I had a while back after my wife had an accident.  Took out the front left bumper, she did. The other party was "at fault" and she asked that we use her body repair guy.  Body repair guy comes over to my house to give me a quote on the repairs and in the course of our discussion, he sees that the camshaft sensor and shaft is about to fail and he tells me how to fix it.   First you remove the four bolts that hold the power steering reservoir and slide that back. Then you remove this other 10mm bolt that holds the cam shaft sensor, pull the shaft straight out and insert a new cam shaft sensor

Once upon a time I had a laptop computer that was giving me trouble.  Seems no matter how long I had the computer plugged in, the battery wouldn't charge. Sometimes, even with a full charge (and right in the middle of a presentation), my laptop computer would just turn off. Luckily the computer was on warranty.  So, first I had the power ports replaced, then all the ports (USB, HDMI, everything) were replaced, then they replaced the power cord, the keyboard and, the day before the warranty was to expire, they replaced the motherboard.  Nothing helped. One day, I was in a computer repair shop.  The guy across the counter was talking to a customer who sounded like he had the same kasus I did. Then the repair guy said, "Did you remove the battery and run straight off the power cord?"   Wait.  Remove the battery?  If I remove the battery, then I can't move around.  Turns out, that was the problem.  I removed the battery and the laptop worked fine.  Problem solve

The other day I was reading an article on the 15 skills employers just expect people to have.  Number 8 was the ability to do online research.  The article stated, simply, that any fool can do research - just type a search in Google and you can find what you want. Really?  It's that simple - just google it?  Do you realize how many people have tried to "just google" their legal work and were blown away by the judge or the clerk or opposing counsel?  The thing is that research is not all that easy for someone who doesn't do it all day, every day.  Heck, even though I've been doing legal research for almost 2 decades, I still get stumped.  Take, for example the question an attorney asked me the other day. A few months back, I turned off my Facebook account because the wankers kept kicking my blog posts.  I hadn't realized how much time I was wasting until I stopped logging onto Facebook.   Hours of wasted time dinking around looking at stuff that had very little to do with life as we know it .  It was a habit that was relatively easy to break; just turned off my account and never looked back.  Of course, I had to explain to family and a few friends (yes, I have a few) why they couldn't find me any more but, really, that was a habit I didn't mind breaking.
